The Global PV Industry Will Face Dramatic Changes
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics to begin mass-producing solar cells. Their solar cells will be showcased at ‘EXPO Solar 2010’ from February 3-5, KINTEX, Korea.
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA (January 12, 2010) - Renowned as a global hub for the solar PV industry, EXPO Solar (International Solar Energy Expo & Conference) (www.exposolar.org) will come back this year to KINTEX, Korea, with an even bigger and better show, scheduled to be held from February 3-5, 2010.
EXPO Solar 2009 was the first exhibition dedicated to solar energy in Korea and presented viable solutions to climate change and a feasible roadmap for green growth strategy many nations are actively pursuing.
This year’s event, EXPO Solar 2010, is organized by the Korea Energy Management Corporation (a Government-owned company under the Ministry of Knowledge Economy of Korea) and supported by a number of global authorities in the field of energy including the Ministry of Knowledge Economy of Korea (MKE); U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Service; PV industry associations around the world including Korea Photovoltaic Industry Association (KOPIA), Shanghai New Energy Industry Association (SNEIA), Sociedade Portuguesa Energia Solar (SPES), Taiwan Photovoltaic Industry Association (TPVIA), Australian and New Zealand Solar Energy Society (ANZSES) and China New Energy Chamber of Commerce; and local Korean governments including Gyeonggi Province, Incheon Metropolitan City and North Gyeongsang Province.
Korean electronics giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have announced they will start mass-production of their solar cells this year. Samsung and LG will be using EXPO Solar 2010 to unveil their solar cells developed with their own technologies for the first time to the world. The active involvement by the two world-class electronics giants in the solar PV business is expected to reshape the global solar PV industry.
Hyundai Heavy Industries, with the largest solar cell production plant in Korea, is now focusing on completing the PV value chain ranging from cells, modules, power plants to polysilicons and ingots. At EXPO Solar 2010, Hyundai Heavy Industries will announce its two main initiatives: US$1 billion in sales this year and a key global PV player status by 2014.
Joining the market-leading names such as Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics who will be featuring their latest technologies and services at EXPO Solar 2010 are solar wafer producer Nexolon, EVA sheet producer SKC and LST Energy, and dye-sensitized solar cell producer Dyesoltimo. Solar production equipment manufacturers such as Jusung Engineering, SFA, AMC and EO Technics, and solar power plant developers including Paru, GNR, D-Solartech and Samyang Reduction Gear will also be on hand at EXPO Solar 2010, making the event a vibrant meeting point for the PV industry.
Over 50,000 solar professionals from all over the world will visit EXPO Solar 2010 and more than 300 companies will demonstrate their technology breakthroughs and cultivate customer contacts at about 800 booths. Exhibitors will come from 30 countries and regions including the U.S., Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Japan and China. International market leaders such as Schmalz, Schmid, TEMPRESS, TIGO ENERGY, KLA-Tencor, Synova SA, EFD (a NORDSON company), Coherent, Jonas & Redmann Photovoltaics Production Solutions, Kaco New Energy, NPC, Vector Japan, Trina Solar, Astronergy, ET Solar and C.E.E.G. will showcase their quality and innovative products at EXPO Solar.
Held concurrently with EXPO Solar 2010, 2010 PV World Forum will feature PV experts from Germany and the U.S. to examine the latest in PV cell manufacturing that can help deliver energy efficiency rate of 20% and a variety of solutions to bring down the manufacturing cost. And PV policy makers from around the world will introduce their countries’ PV policies and guidelines, facilitating information sharing among nations.
As a bonus marketing platform for the exhibitors, the EXPO Solar 2010 organizer will create special venues at the show floor where the exhibitors can present their brand-new products. In addition, to support and enhance exhibitors’ recruitment efforts, EXPO Solar 2010 will hold ‘Solar Job Fair’ during the show period.
